OVERVIEW
INTRODUCTION–
The Sanskrit Samhita & Maulik Siddhanta department is an indispensable and elementary component of Ayurveda academia. This department imparts teaching and training of basic principles of Ayurveda, Ayurveda History, Ayurveda Darshana and Sanskrit language at the undergraduate level. The department of Sanskrit Samhita & Maulik Siddhanta primarily focuses on the study of Classical Literature, which forms the foundation for understanding, more specific aspects of Ayurveda. Departments of Sanskrit Samhita & Maulik Siddhanta is one of the pre-clinical department of Ayurveda. This department imparts knowledge of Ayurveda fundamentals and the Sanskrit language to the students of 1st year B.A.M.S. Course. This department teaches the basic principles like Panchamahabhoota Siddhant, Tridosha Siddhant, diagnostic & treatment principles of Ayurveda medicine. Sanskrit is the basic subject that is taught to the students through this department, this language helps the students to understand the original Ayurveda text books that are written in Sanskrit. Padartha Vijnana subject is the main subject of this department. Padartha Vijnana provides basic knowledge about the evolution of the Ayurveda from Indian philosophy. It explains Darshana Shastra with scientific base.
The department handles five subjects, which fans throughout the course and deals with a large proportion of the curriculum. The subject are-

In the Samhita section the students learn about-
Ashtangahridayam- Excellent classical text written by Acharya Vagbhatta, which gives the basic information of Ayurveda principle.
Charakasamhita Purvardha– Classical text written by Acharya Charak. Introductory & basic principles of Ayurveda are given in this Samhita.
Charakasamhita Uttarardha– Knowledge of various diseases, their complications, how to avoid complications & their management is very precisely given in this part of Samhita.
In our institution, we focus on nurturing the coming generations, to be proficient clinicians having in depth understanding in the basic principles of Ayurveda. In this respect, the department is actively involved in imbibing and disseminating traditional knowledge to satisfy the needs of the upcoming scientific community.

DEPARTMENTAL ACTIVITIES–
Ashtangahridayam Svadhyayam- A systematic and traditional method to study Ayurveda texts. We are regularly conducting Ashtangahridayam Svadhayaya sessions.
Small Group Learning– A scientific method to promote interaction and active learning among students. This a weekly, guided interactive programme, aimed at inducting the students for applying the learned concepts.
Sanskrit Shiviram– An introductory programme organized every year, to cultivate familiarity in Sanskrit language to the new students. This programme focuses on developing communication skills through Sanskrit and bring the students to a more comfortable learning atmosphere.
Sanskrit Lab– The department is running a Sanskrit lab for improving Sanskrit language skill among the students. This is accomplished through literary exercises and different activities focusing on the grammatical aspect.
Teacher’s Svadhyayam– Department of Sanskrit Samhita & Maulik Siddhanta is organizing a monthly Svadhyayam session for the teaching faculty of our institution. The focus of Svadhyayam is mainly Ashtangahridayam.
Charaka Jayanti Mahotsava– Organized every year on the occasion of Acharya Charaka’s Jayanti.
Ashtangahridayam Pranayanam– Covering the Sutrasthana of the text, as a part of Navaratri Mahotsava every year.
Model and Chart Preparation Competition– Organized every year with collaboration of other big event of college.
Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav– Above said various events are organizing under this programme.
